You Matter

The first step toward making positive life change often starts with being heard.

Services

Services to equip you with the ability to work through difficult circumstances include:

Relationships

Relationship conflicts are one of the most common issues in life. You can receive breakthrough with the challenges of parents, children, spouse, workplace and general friendships.

Parenting

There is no instruction manual that comes with having children. Sometimes we all need a little help in bringing order and seeing a way ahead with being a parent.

Separation and Divorce

Marriage and partnership changes. It can help to focus on knowledge and skills to assist you when facing these major transitions in life.

Friendships

Resolving conflict or having the right kind of relational engagement in a friendship is important for healthy and whole living.

Work Challenges

Our workplaces, and relationships with our superiors and peers, have a significant impact on life. Working through and understanding the challenges faced can lead to a more fulfilling work environment.

Self Care

Caring about yourself is vitally important for living a healthy and happy life.

Weight Loss

Support for persistent weight-related concerns. Sometimes breakthrough must happen at the thinking level first.

Addiction

We commonly think of addiction in terms of alcohol, substance abuse or problem gambling. However, addiction can also be in the form of over-eating, shopping, spending, pornography and many other life-controlling or coping mechanisms. An understanding of the biological, social and psychological factors may be underlying these addictions. Counselling can assist in discovering these factors in your life.

Healing and Trauma Recovery

Any type of healing or recovery from a traumatic life event can feel like a long and extremely hard journey. Therapy and Counselling can help you on the road to healing and wholeness.

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are complex, multifaceted physical and mental health problems. Usually a number of contributing and perpetuating factors add to their development. Some level of Counselling and/or Therapy is vital in assisting to overcome such disorders.

Personality Difficulties

We all have personality traits that contain different types and variations of distinctly unique and common characteristics. Personality disorders tend to develop from maladaptive ways of perceiving, thinking, feeling and behaving. Changes to these can be made through a deeper understanding of yourself.

Self-Harm and Thoughts of Suicide

Self-harming often serves as a coping mechanism for managing overwhelming negative feelings such as anger, sadness, loneliness, shame, guilt and other forms of emotional pain. Thoughts of suicide are also common. Counselling can help you on the journey from despair to hope for the future.

Thoughts and Emotions

Our thoughts and emotions directly affect our present reality. Allowing time to share your thoughts and emotions can lead to positive change and hope for the future.

Anxiety

Intense fear about what might happen. Anxiety is a normal part of life and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, severe and prolonged anxiety can develop into anxiety disorders, which have now become the most common psychological disorders affecting children and adults.

Depression

Persistent negative thoughts about yourself and the future. Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses. It carries the highest disease burden of any illness in Australia. Counselling continues to be a highly affective approach to dealing with and overcoming the grasp of depression.

Loneliness and Grief

Support through an emotional or physical loss. The loss of a loved one , a body part, a job, or a dream for example, affects all aspects of the survivor’s present and future functioning and can be severely disruptive to the person’s psychological health and balance. The focus is to provide a clearer understanding of loss and grief in order to help you move forward with life.

Anger

Anger is not aggression, hostility or violence (although these may result from the experience of anger). Rather, anger is an internal event – a feeling or a physiological reaction. For this reason, some people may find it challenging to articulate their experience. ‘Feeling angry’ can manifest in a variety of ways. Counselling has proven to be very effective in helping people to understand and manage their anger.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is everything I share confidential?

The information discussed in your Counselling session is entirely confidential and will not be released to anyone except with your express permission. The only time a counsellor may release information (to authorities only) is if they consider your life or someone else’s life is in immediate danger, if they are mandated to report the abuse of a child under 16 years, or if details are legally requested by a court of law.

Do I need a referral?

You do not need any referral to attend Counselling or Therapy.

How often do I need to attend?

There is no minimum or fixed number of sessions. During your initial booking you can choose how often you would like to attend. Quite often clients will begin by attending weekly or fortnightly until they feel ready to visit less often. At that time they may choose another frequency such as monthly sessions when they feel they are ready.

How many times do I need to attend?

This is very hard to determine and will depend on the issues you are bringing to Counselling, and what benefit you feel you are gaining from the sessions. You should expect to attend for at least four sessions to allow for a measure of results to start becoming clear. Sometimes clients find that they receive ongoing benefits from the sessions, and they might attend for longer periods. Generally speaking, you can continue Counselling whilst you feel you are gaining benefit from it. There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions required, and you are free to book from session to session.

Can I receive Medicare rebates?

Counselling in general is not covered by Medicare.

Medicare only covers the services of a Clinical or Registered Psychologist who provides Counselling to an individual. To obtain Medicare rebates, you need a referral from your GP including a Mental Health Plan. If you are in need of Clinical or Registered Psychologist Counselling please visit http://www.counsellingsydney.com.au.

Is Counselling covered by private health insurance?

Once again, Counselling and general Therapy is not covered by private health insurance providers.

What is the difference between Counselling and Therapy?

Counselling is a shorter-term treatment designed for specific problems, issues or challenges. Therapy usually involves a longer period of visits where there is a focus on assisting the client with reorienting or restructuring personality or self image.

What days and times are you open?

Appointment times are available Monday to Friday between 7 am and 5.30 pm.

How do I contact you?

There are three ways.
1. Fill out the enquiry form online.
2. Email me at jenny@jennybrown.net.au providing your name, best contact number and short description of your need. I will normally return your email or call within two hours (during business hours).
3. Call 0425 332 476 and speak with me directly or leave a message and I will call you back.
